Cornelia Storz is Professor for Economic Institutions, Innovation and East Asian Development and Academic Director of Modern East Asian Studies at the University of Frankfurt, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, and affiliated to the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies (IZO) and association researcher of the EHESS, Paris.

She did her Ph.D. in economics in 1996 with a thesis on the Japanese entrepreneur with the support of a scholarship from the Japan-German Center. From 1997 to 2000 she was professor for Japanese Economy at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, from 2001 to 2006 professor of Japanese Economy at the University of Marburg, and from 2007 onwards professor at the University of Frankfurt.

Her research focuses on comparative institutional analysis, institutional change, innovation systems and industry emergence with specific attention to Japan and other Asian regimes. With scholarships of JSPS, JILPT, BMBF and others she has been invited the University of Tokyo, the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training, the RIETI at METI, the Hitotsubashi University, the Stanford Graduate Business School  and others. She was granted research funds by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Regional Policy, 1999-2003), by the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation (International Standards, 2002-2004), by the Japan Foundation (Japanese Studies,  2003-2012) and others.

Recent papers have been published in Research Policy, ZfB and Social Science Japan Journal, and she co-edits several special issues, including Research Policy and Socio Economic Review (both forthcoming). She is co-author of Institutional Diversity and Innovation. Continuing and Emerging Patterns in Japan and China  (Routledge, 2011) and co-editor of Institutional Variety in East Asia. Formal and informal patterns of coordination (Edward Elgar, 2011). She is also editor of a special issue of Socio Economic Review on “Asian Capitalism” and of a special issue of Research Policy on “Path Dependence and Emergence of New Industries” (together with Jackie Kraft, Sebastien Lechevalier and Francesco Quatraro), both being published in 2013.

She is co-organiser of the SASE network “Asian Capitalisms” and member of executive committee of the European Research Network EJARN, based at the Stockholm Schools of Economics.
